The Coat That Never Goes Out of Style: Our Iconic Razorbil & Redwink

From the Austrian Alps to a family-run atelier in Spain, discover the story behind two of Amaia London's most treasured pieces. A little royal favourite, a lifetime of craftsmanship, and a timeless classic made to be loved for generations.

Some pieces come and go with the seasons. Others become part of our story

At Amaia London, our Razorbil coats and Redwink jackets belong firmly to the second category. Instantly recognisable, endlessly versatile and beautifully made, they have been a staple of our collections for years, dressing little ones for everything from everyday adventures to the most special occasions.

Worn by royal children and VIP families, loved by parents and passed down between siblings, these iconic pieces embody everything we believe children's clothing should be: beautiful, comfortable, practical and made to last.

And behind their effortless elegance lies a rather special story.

A Little Piece of Austria, Beautifully Made in Spain

The inspiration comes from a centuries-old Alpine tradition. Classic Austrian wool jackets have long been treasured for their warmth, practicality and understated elegance. Their appeal is simple: a beautiful shape, exceptional craftsmanship and a design that never feels dated.

Our Razorbil and Redwink carry that heritage into the wardrobes of today's little ones.

Crafted from 100% boiled merino wool sourced from Austria, the wool is knitted in Spain before being transformed into our signature coats and jackets.

The magic is in the fabric. Knitted for natural comfort and flexibility, then boiled to create a beautifully dense, compact finish, it offers remarkable warmth without the stiffness of a traditional structured coat.

Little arms can move, little explorers can play, and little ones stay wonderfully cosy. The tightly knitted, boiled wool also provides natural resistance to light rain, making it a particularly clever companion for unpredictable British weather.

Warmth without bulk. Elegance without effort. Comfort without compromise.

The Hands Behind Every Coat

Perhaps the most beautiful part of the story is not the coat itself, but the people who make it. Tucked away in Spain, a small family-owned atelier has been perfecting this craft for generations. Today, it is run by a brother and sister who inherited both the workshop and its exceptional savoir-faire from their parents.

Every coat passes through skilled hands, with each stage of production carried out with extraordinary care and attention to detail. There is no shortcut to this kind of quality. It comes from knowledge passed down through generations, from years of experience, and from the quiet pride of artisans who know their craft inside out. In a world increasingly driven by speed and disposable fashion, we believe this expertise is something precious. Something worth protecting, celebrating and preserving.

Because when you choose one of these coats, you are not simply buying a beautiful piece of children's clothing. You are helping keep a remarkable tradition alive.

One Coat. Every Occasion. Endless Possibilities.

There is something wonderfully reassuring about a coat that simply goes with everything.

With their classic silhouette, charming details and beautifully considered colours, our Razorbill coats and Redwink jackets have that rare ability to elevate any outfit without ever looking overdressed.

Our most-loved shades? Rust, denim blue, soft pink and timeless navy. Four beautiful colours, each with its own personality, yet all equally easy to wear. We particularly love the rust Razorbill layered over our delicate Aria dress in Liberty fabric, where the rich, warm wool brings out the beauty of the floral print.

For a slightly different look, the denim blue coat pairs effortlessly with our mustard tweed Pestana skirt and navy mini-check Isoline blouse. A charming combination of textures and colours, perfect for autumn strolls, family lunches or a special outing.

And for the boys? Our Theodore corduroy trousers, in almost any shade, make the perfect starting point. Add a Pereprine shirt for an effortlessly smart everyday look, or our Daniel shirt when the occasion calls for something a little more formal.

From Sunday lunches to Christmas celebrations, from countryside walks to family portraits, these are the pieces that make dressing little ones beautifully feel wonderfully easy.

A Royal Favourite, A Wardrobe Icon

There is a reason our boiled wool coats and jackets have been chosen by royal families and VIPs time and again. Their beauty lies in their simplicity.

No passing trends. No unnecessary embellishments. Just a timeless shape, exquisite fabric and the kind of quality that speaks for itself.

They look as beautiful over a hand-smocked dress as they do with a simple shirt and corduroy trousers. And somehow, year after year, they feel just as relevant as the first time we introduced them.

It is this enduring appeal that has made the Razorbill and Redwink true Amaia London icons.

Made to Be Worn. Made to Be Loved. Made to Be Passed Down.

We have always believed that the most beautiful children's clothes are the ones that carry memories.

The coat worn for a first Christmas. The jacket chosen for a family celebration. The familiar little piece that appears in photograph after photograph, before finding its way into a younger sibling's wardrobe.

Thanks to the exceptional resilience of boiled merino wool and the care taken in their making, our Razorbill coats and Redwink jackets are designed to withstand years of childhood adventures while retaining their beautiful shape.

Not simply for one season, or even one child, but for the little brothers, sisters and cousins who come next.

That, to us, is true luxury.

A beautiful piece, made by extraordinary hands, worn with joy and treasured for years to come. And to the wonderful artisans in Spain who continue to bring these little masterpieces to life, stitch after stitch, generation after generation: thank you.

Some traditions are simply too beautiful not to preserve.
